Okay, this isn't really a problem for most people, but it's a deal killer for me: Even TypePad Pro only comes with 5 GB per month of bandwidth. That's not bad for the price, really, but it's less than a day's worth for me. Most people, however, won't have issues with that unless they get a lot of referrals from elsewhere. I haven't heard people complain about TypePad's policies, which is probably because at the moment, they don't appear to have any yet: "We will be charging overusage fees for bandwidth and disk overusage. We haven't yet set the rate for those fees, and we will not actually be charging them until we have an option in place to purchase additional bandwidth or disk space at a lower cost."
Seems reasonable, though if you've got a high-traffic blog you may want to look at a standalone Movable Type installation instead, or talk to the TypePad folks about cutting a deal. . . .
UPDATE: Just checked the stats on InstaPundit's server and it's used 216 gigabytes so far this month, making it something over 10 gigabytes a day. So I guess I won't be switching to TypePad. . . .
Nice "comment" feature here though, lacking on IP ;).

Think of the trees the BlogFather is saving, whole forests daily!!
That's a seriously heavy amount of text, especially to old salty dogs like myself who first went online with 11 character per second teletypes!

Although this won't solve the problem for you since InstaPundit doesn't use many images, in most cases the bandwidth can be significantly decreased by hosting images on a different site. This is what I do at http://nick.typepad.com/ , and it's worked well for me.

Is Instapundit really that atypical? I am by no means an "a-list" blogger, but my site burns through 10gb of traffic per month on a relatively low-graphics site.
One of the things I notice going through server logs is the huge growth in non-human accesses to my sites -- robots, RSS aggregators, etc. -- and that trend is only going to accelerate.
BTW, I think the 200mb limit would be a bigger problem, though maybe not if you turn comments off as Glenn usually does.

216 GB per month is not a whole lot of traffic. That's an average of 700kbps of consistent traffic-- under half of a T1.
Your homepage is (currently) about 180KB, with images. That's 1440kbits, so I'd guess that on average you have a person loading your homepage once every two seconds.
While those numbers are probably spectacular for the blog world, they're fairly unimpressive when taken in the context of any number of other industries and the web traffic that they recieve.

5GB per day is about 485kbps. You could download 5GB in a day, easy, with your home cable modem. High-end DSL connections could serve up 5GB per day without any problems.
