PHOTOS AND STUFF
I just used the upload feature to upload this photo of me, from the local paper's article on blogs. I'm wearing a suit because they sent the photographer by with about 15 minutes notice, right before I went to a law school dinner. I don't generally dress up for blogging. . . .
The photo-upload feature is much the same as Movable Type's. It's very easy. I don't use MT's photo-upload feature on my InstaPundit blog, though I've played with it a bit -- I upload using an FTP program. I'm not sure why. Habit, I guess.
TypePad supports post-via-email, but I haven't tried to figure it out yet. I've been doing this for about 10-15 minutes, which demonstrates how easy it is.
UPDATE: Went to look at the post-by-email instructions. Looks pretty easy.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader "Mac" comments: "How about a rule - for every pic of you, one of the Instawife!" Fair enough, I guess. This one was taken with the Toshiba using natural light, and just a bit of the Photoshop "fill flash" effect to lighten the shadows.
Hmm. You have to click the link to make this work. Every time I tried to upload the file using the TypePad utility, it took me to a new post, so I just cut and pasted the HTML it generated. But it's not showing a thumbnail here for some reason. Go figure. It's easy to use, but it's not foolproof, I guess.
Anybody got any suggestions on what I did wrong?
ANOTHER UPDATE: Followed the advice of a commenter, below, but it's a workaround. If you want to see the photo full-size, you'll still have to click on "view image."

Uh, thanks Mark. But that's not quite how we met. Actually, we met when I was dating her older sister's roommate. Somebody once told me that was a "very Southern" way to meet a future spouse, though I've never been sure exactly why that would be.

Glenn, on the thumbnail issue... just place this HTML code before the "VIEW IMAGE"code.
{img src="http://glennreynolds.typepad.com/glennreynolds/helen3.jpg" width="150" height="200" border="0"}
Don't forget to replace the outter brackets with the greater and less than symbols. The thumbnail will be half-sized.
Maybe that's what your looking for...

Glenn, when you upload the file, make sure you press the "show me the html" radio button (it's defaulted to "new post") and check "create a thumbnail for this image" and select whether or not you want an embedded or popup image.
I just tried this on my testblog and it looked like I still had to manually set the proportions for the thumbnail.
Anyway, that solves your new post issue anyway. It'll spit out the html for you at the end and you can cut and paste it.

The TypePad photo button will only create a thumbnail when your initial image is wider than the post column of your blog. Otherwise ya gotta do it by hand, unfortunately.

I am relatively new to your blog...a few months now... but I would like to make a very important observation. I saw the picture of your wife that you posted and I truly think you are totally and unequivocally insane. You have to be to spend so much time blogging when you could be away from all this with her alone and without electricity or a phone, some would call that heaven.
